Origins and artistic statement
Filmmaking is a way for me to vomit out my thoughts and give shape to abstract feelings and ideas. I make films first and foremost for myself. I want to see the stories in my head come to life on the big screen.
When I watched my first film, Baggage, with an audience of around three to four hundred people in my university’s cinema hall, I sat among the audience, watching their reactions, and for a moment I felt like Margot Robbie’s character, Sharon Tate, in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, watching people react to a film she was part of. Their reactions fascinated me: they laughed, felt the suspense, and were shocked by what unfolded on the screen. Seeing people experience something that had once existed only in my imagination was incredibly exciting and made me want to keep making films.
